roi
Roi is located on the island of Corfu, set within a gently sloping landscape overlooking the Ionian Sea. The design draws from the local architectural language, reinterpreting the traditional arch as a central element that mediates between interior and exterior while framing views toward the horizon.
The house is carefully positioned across the natural slope, extending along the terrain with minimal intervention and preserving the site’s character. The ground floor is expressed as a solid stone volume, articulated by a sequence of arches that define the façade and create shaded semi-open spaces. Within this base, the bedrooms are arranged to ensure privacy while maintaining a close relationship with the surrounding landscape.
Above, a lighter volume with a pitched roof hosts the main living spaces in an open-plan layout that unfolds toward the exterior. A covered semi-outdoor area extends the interior, offering protection from sun and wind, while large openings enhance natural light and reinforce the continuity between inside and outside.
The outdoor spaces develop along the front of the residence, where the infinity pool aligns with the building’s geometry and the sea beyond, strengthening the visual connection with the horizon. The landscape is shaped in gentle levels, planted with Mediterranean vegetation that contributes to a balanced microclimate.
Natural stone, plastered surfaces in earthy tones, timber elements, and generous glazing define the material palette, ensuring a harmonious integration with the environment.
The proposal aims to create a contemporary residence that is both rooted in the landscape of Corfu and open to its surroundings, reinterpreting local architectural elements through a clear and contemporary approach.
