Kamara

Kamara is set near Agioi Theodoroi on an open plot with uninterrupted views of the sea, where the design seeks a seamless dialogue between architecture and landscape. The house unfolds along the natural slope in a series of stepped, clean volumes, respecting the scale and simplicity of traditional Corfiot architecture while offering a contemporary interpretation.

The interior and exterior are closely intertwined. Large openings frame the sea, allowing natural light and ventilation to flow through the main living areas, while a shaded veranda with arches extends the interior outward, creating a relaxed semi-outdoor living space. Transitional zones, from covered walkways to pergolas, guide movement through the house and encourage a constant relationship with the surrounding environment.

Private spaces are carefully positioned to balance intimacy with connection to the landscape. The upper level opens to a roof terrace with panoramic views, including the view of Corfu Old Town, while the lower level hosts a swimming pool and seating area, gently integrated into the terrain, reinforcing the sense of living within the site rather than above it.

Natural materials define the palette: local stone,  timber, plaster in earthy tones, and traditional Corfiot bricks and roof tiles create a sense of place while harmonizing with the surrounding landscape. Vegetation and pergolas soften the transitions between built form and nature, creating shaded, comfortable outdoor areas that encourage lingering and enjoyment of the views.

Kamara reinterprets the essence of Corfiot architectural identity through a modern lens, offering a home that balances contemporary comfort with a deep respect for context, topography, and the Mediterranean setting. It is a residence designed to connect its inhabitants to both the land and the sea, where architecture becomes an extension of the natural environment.
