Aether

Built next to the ruins of an old olive press, Aether revives the feeling of a small neighborhood. The compact scale that defines the project becomes a volumetric composition of small dwellings, nestled within an olive grove and surrounded by trees. The design draws from the morphology of traditional villages, with one of the original structures preserved and integrated into the new layout. The overall approach aims to create a dynamic coexistence between built form and natural landscape, placing particular emphasis on the preservation and protection of the existing olive trees.

The feeling of a small settlement is expressed through a “slow living” philosophy. Each building is positioned carefully within the site, responding to natural topography and orienting itself toward different directions to maximize views and privacy. This varied placement allows for a sense of openness while maintaining seclusion for each unit.

Tranquility and autonomy are further supported by low stone boundary walls, constructed using local materials. These elements reinforce both the conceptual and material connection of the project to its island context, ensuring that the architecture blends quietly and respectfully into the landscape.
